Family farmers need your support more than ever, and summertime is the perfect opportunity to buy seasonal, local produce and meat at your neighborhood farmers market. Purchasing directly from farmers helps to support our regional economy and gives you an opportunity to know where your food comes from. Plus, the food items that you buy there provide some of the freshest tastes available.

Farmers markets are also a community hub where you can meet up with friends, bring your children (and sometimes pets), and have an opportunity to talk with your local family farmer. We can’t think of a better way to buy real food while connecting with your community.

We sent photographer Tess Graham on a mission to visit as many Chicago markets as she can this summer, then share her images with us. See more of her photographs on Instagram at

If you have a favorite image you would like to share, hashtag us at #ediblechicago and we may include your image in an upcoming print issue of Edible Chicago.
